Bayer Universal Poster

This student project focused on researching a chosen typeface and then designing a Type Speciment Poster based on the style and period of the typeface.

My chosen typeface was "Universal" by Herbert Bayer.

In 1925, Bauhaus Director Walter Gropius commissioned Herbert Bayer to design a typeface for all Bauhaus communications and Bayer happily undertook the task. He used his approach to modern typography to crate an idealist typeface. Bayer developed a geometric sans serif typeface based only on lower case letters called "Proposal for a Universal Typeface".

This poster draws inspiration from publications and posters of the Bauhaus.
